Interview Musiqtone.com - tokio hotel special

Tokio Hotel has taken over the world; not only are they a hugely successful band in Europe, but they are also a top notch band in the United States. Just a few weeks ago; they won an award for Best Group at the EMA’s; showing that they really do have what it takes. We were able to talk with the guys and fill you in how they plan on getting back in touch with their fans in the next year!

Alex Zawada: You just won an award for Best Group at the EMAs beating out Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Kings of Leon, and the Jonas Brothers; how does it feel knowing you beat out such well known bands?
Bill: It feels great and we were very honoured to even be nominated with those bands! We admire and respect them so much and winning that category is unbelievable. Thanks to our fans again… you are the best!

AZ: I know you are very well known in Europe, but how does it feel knowing the United States supports you just as much?
Tom: We are thrilled. I mean being a young band from Germany and getting the chance to even release records in the States feels like a dream come true. Back when we were thirteen we just wanted to be discovered and look where we are now. I mean this is still only the beginning for us in the US but it’s already absolutely crazy.
Bill: So far we had an amazing time on our US trips and we hope to come back very soon in 2010.

AZ: Fans have been wondering why there is such a great difference between translations for the lyrics of the songs on the Humanoid album?
Bill: Well, you have to see them as two different versions. It’s not a one to one translation. But in general they have the same feeling and meaning. This time we wrote in English and in German at the same time.

AZ: What is your favourite song on the new album?
Tom. When working on an album that long and so intensely, it is hard to pick a favourite song. I really like all of them. AUTOMATIC, NOISE and our next single WORLD BEHIND MY WALL are my faves at the moment, but that might change next week..;-)
Bill: This is such a tough question, it’s like asking someone which of their own kids they like best! At the moment I am really into PHANTOMRIDER and DOGS UNLEASHED.

AZ: What’s your most embarrassing moment on stage?
Tom: It is more the time before we go on stage. We have huge stage fright, so nothing is worse than the minutes before going on stage. When we are up there everything is great.

AZ: What inspired you to get into music?
Bill: Nobody or nothing in particular really inspired me. It just felt natural and I knew this is what I want to do for the rest of my life from the time I was about five years old.

AZ: If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?
All: STEVEN TYLER would be really cool…!

AZ: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would you change?
Bill: Make people understand that not paying for music is destroying the art and the artists – especially for the newcomers.

AZ: What can fans expect from you in the next year?
Tom: We will be going on tour in 2010 and we are totally excited about that. Especially after such a long time in the studio it’s fantastic to go back on stage and meet all the fans.
Bill: We’ve prepared some wicked stuff for this tour so everyone can expect some surprises. Hopefully we will be in the US toward the end of 2010 for concerts.

AZ: Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
Bill: Follow your heart and be determined. Don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t do.
Tom: And don’t follow any advice

AZ: Is there something other than music that you might be interested in the future or is this something you want to do your whole lives?
Tom: No, not really – this band is our life and we hope to be doing this for a long time.
Bill: Exactly! Had this not worked out I have no clue what else I or we would have done – there is nothing else besides music that feels so perfect.

AZ: Is there anything you’d like to tell your fans here at Musiqtone?
Bill: Yes, thanks so much for all your support. Without you we would not be here – see you in a town near you in 2010.

But since a lot of fans were asking and mailing me to tell them about this rumor i decided to just write a little about what I think about all this drama and this ‘queen’.

22.11.09 Arthur and the Minimoys - bill kaulitz

Is Bill Kaulitz morphing into Prince ?

Let’s hope so! Here’s the Tokio Hotel frontman at the premiere of Arthur und die Minimoys 2 – Die Rueckkehr des Boesen M‘ (Arthur 2)
– he voiced the part of Arthur — at Cinestar Sony Center movie theater in Berlin this weekend. And boy, does Bill got that purp!

Bill Kaulitz was resplendent in the royal color, an enormous (yet chic!) granny sweater, and platform wedges, which made us think perhaps he’s making a not-so-subtle nod to the original Purple rocker.

And why not? Both Bill and Prince have a flamboyantly charismatic stage presence, as well as a penchant for gravity-defying hair and sparkles. And both Bill and Prince command undying support from an army of loyal followers.

Tokio Hotel Singer Bill laments lame love life

Bill Kaulitz, the androgynous lead singer of German pop band Tokio Hotel, told Berlin’s BZ tabloid on Monday that his love life was a major disappointment even though he was idolised by teen girls around the world.

“If I look at the last five years, I didn’t have a chance to fall in love,” said Kaulitz, who admitted he last had a serious girlfriend when he was 15. “That’s really not enough for a 20-year-old.”

Kaulitz, known as much for his extravagant appearance as his music, said he doubted he’d truly fall in love any time soon.

“It will probably never happen to me,” he told BZ. “I hope I’m wrong, but right now that’s a realistic assessment. There are no dates and there’s no chance to meet anyone normal.”

But he said speculation he was gay because of his penchant for makeup and big hair was “almost boring” and to be expected: “I think it’s completely okay when guys like me. Why shouldn’t it be?”

The frontman for the former teenie rock band from Magdeburg also lamented how stardom had changed everyday aspects of his life.

“I have people who take care of everything – which is pretty cool for the first two years,” Kaulitz said. “But nowadays I’d like to decide on my own how to fill my fridge.”

But only once did he dare indulge his shopping urge – at a supermarket in America at 3 am, when the store was completely empty. “That was the first time that I realised how much there is to buy,” he said.

Tokio Hotel ‘World behind my wall’ and Tokio Verizon Droid

Taking the world by storm, German rockers Tokio Hotel are currently riding high off the recent release of their latest album, Humanoid, after the success of the first Tokio Hotel single from Humanoid, “Automatic”. One of the most popular bands on the planet, Tokio Hotel is fresh off of their recent “Best Group” win at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards where the Tokio boys beat out the likes of musical heavyweights Black Eyed Peas, Jonas Brothers, Kings of Leon and Green Day. At the MTV EMA show in Berlin last month, Tokio Hotel took to the stage for an explosive performance of the Tokio Humanoid track, “World Behind My Wall”.

Now Tokio Hotel has officially confirmed “World Behind My Wall” as the second single release from Humanoid following “Automatic”. As the Tokio momentum continues, the four members of Tokio Hotel – Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav – now have their song “Human Connect To Human” currently featured in the new Verizon Droid commercial. With 2009 coming to a close, Tokio Hotel is capping off their huge year with a Tokio bang.

It is extremely difficult for a band, any band, to bridge the gap between international markets and the lucrative United States landscape. Tokio Hotel, who hail from Magdeburg, Germany, have been one of the few hugely successful rock acts to make the leap with an increasing amount of success. The Tokio foursome of Bill Kaulitz, Tom Kaulitz, Gustav Schafer, and Georg Listing recently released their third studio album, Humanoid on October 2, and have seen their star rise in the U.S. due to the popularity of singles, “Automatic” and “World Behind My Wall”.

Tokio Hotel began their ascent to the top of the music industry when they were signed to Sony BMG earlier in the decade but were dropped in 2005 prior to the release of their first album. Universal Music saw the potential in the German teen rockers and quickly picked up the contract from Sony. Tokio Hotel released “Durch den Monsun” (Through the Monsoon) as their first single but the second single, “Schrei” (Scream) became an even bigger follow-up, which led to English translations and Tokio Hotel’s first full-length English album, Scream in 2005.

Aside from critical acclaim, various nominations and accolades at international awards shows, plus thousands of screaming fans worldwide, Tokio Hotel soon tapped into the music DVD market for even greater success while also balancing the conflict between pirated downloads, sales, and legal digital downloads. Connecting with the fans, Tokio Hotel released their behind-the-scenes DVD Tokio Hotel TV- Caught on Camera last December, which included backstage footage of Tokio Hotel with fan access plus featurettes on the journey of Tokio Hotel. A special deluxe edition was later released with a second Tokio disc, Future – The Road to the New Album

As proof of international popularity of Tokio Hotel, front man, Bill Kaulitz was immortalized in wax at the famous Madame Tussauds Museum in Berlin in September 2008. Kaulitz is the youngest person to have been given the honor and his trademark androgynous look has since become one of music industry’s most recognizable alternative images.

October was a busy month for Tokio Hotel after a whirlwind of press and media dates that spanned Europe and North America. On November 5 in Berlin, Tokio Hotel beat out a slew of music heavyweights like the Black Eyed Peas, Jonas Brothers, and Green Day when they won the MTV Europe Music Award for best Group.

In an interview with Myspace Music Feed, Tokio Hotel spoke about the difference between playing arenas in Europe as compared to the smaller clubs and venues in the United States. Bill called it intimate in relation to the larger, more crowded stage of the U.S. However, at the pace Tokio Hotel is taking over the world, it won’t be long before Tokio Hotel sells out venues all over the U.S.

With a lengthy tour schedule in support of Humanoid, the guys of Tokio Hotel have encountered their fair share of setbacks, including a tour hiatus after Bill went into surgery to remove a cyst on his vocal chords during the band’s 1000 Hotels Tour. Bill and Tokio Hotel have since recovered and continue their push into the mainstream American market. Humanoid has a futuristic, alt-electro-based atmosphere that gives Tokio Hotel a unique sense of individuality in a market with so many mainstream copycats. Interestingly, with Humanoid, Tokio Hotel has evolved without completely alienating their original style of music, and more importantly, their loyal fan base.

Now that Tokio Hotel has brokered a distinctive sound to go with their dark but explosive alt-image, there’s no slowing down for Germany’s biggest band on the scene today. Although Tokio Hotel has conquered nearly every continent and have been certified 10x platinum, the German rockers have quickly invaded North America on their way to becoming the new generation’s supergroup. With all eyes and ears trained on Tokio Hotel, the German foursome has become one of the most buzzworthy bands on the internet. Most recently, Tokio Hotel officially confirmed “World Behind My Wall” as the second single from Humanoid while their song “Human Connect to Human” became the background track for the highly touted Verizon Droid phone. With North America as the only territory left to fully conquer, the guys of Tokio Hotel are only beginning to realize their as a band after a six year journey to the top of the global music scene. It’s an amazing Tokio feat when you think that Bill and twin brother, Tom, were only 13 years old in 2003.
